We are deeply shocked by the military invasion of Ukraine launched by Russia. War in Europe – caused by a crime of illegal aggression – is highly alarming. The situation is a serious concern for all of us in Europe.
We express our strong support to the independent and democratic State of Ukraine and its people. International law must be respected. Above all, civilian lives and safety must be protected in all circumstances.
We, as a European Judicial Association, express specifically our solidarity with our Ukrainian colleagues and Ukrainian citizens who have contributed to strengthen rule of law in Ukraine in the last years.
We judges in Europe must stand united and speak out for the values of democratic states governed by the rule of law.
We condemn all aggressive acts and human rights abuses committed by Russia in Ukraine, and demand to stand and act for the defense of our core democratic values.
